Blog 1602: Bangalore Episode 5: Flee! Free!

Had a lecture in GE on Six Sigma today.
Meant for all new joinees.
Six Sigma is a major concept in GE.
Thought I'd better attend and know more.

Began at 3.00 pm
Scheduled to go till 4.00 pm.
But...
There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip.
It became majorly boring once you realised the what and how of it.
Not helped by a fellow asking all sorts of irrelevant questions.
I almost shouted out an answer to one of his questions.
Almost.
Realised I cant take it anymore.

3.45 pm.
Borrowed cell from a fellow sufferer.
Dialled my number.
Got up and flashed my ringing phone in the direction of the lecturer.
Got out of the room.
Muhahaha.

Sunny: Problem with Six Sigma is that its very easy to fool people. Set your own Specification limits and then get youre sigma values from them. The more 'loose' the limits, the higher is your sigma value. If you can get into the technical details of 6 sig, its very interesting. But of course, in the corporate world,x is made like 10x so that the consultants can charge for the glossy papers :-)

Hmm... but I'm sure if you're conducting business with a firm that declares itself to be six sigma compliant, then you would want to know how it has defined its values... and thereby you can check how well they suit you.

but what's the use of bunking 15 minutes of something when you've already sat through 45 mins ??

Sunny said...

Two things:

1) You never know if it'll last only as long as the next 15 mins.
2) The concept of 'thus far and no further' :)

And then what happened?

Sunny said...

@ Prat:

Oh lets leave the good guy beating up bad guys stories to the movies down here!

I prefer dealing in stories in which ppl walk away in glory into the sunset and they all live happily for ever after :D
