Ever happened to you that you're talking on the phone with someone and the other person keeps saying 'aur batao' ??
Ugh! I hate that line..
I mean.. if I have anything to say, wont I say it myself?? Why the prodding please??
Here's a sample...
Other person:" Haan.. aur batao.. whats going on?"
Me:" bas.. chal rahi hai.. nothing much worth telling abt... life's pretty peaceful..."
Other person" Hmm.. cool.. achcha hai.. aur batao..."
Kya bataoon for God's sake?? :((
I can crib about the chaos in my life.. but everyone has enough of those.. and I dont like bothering ppl with my troubles. Plus, THIS IS KGP.. and not enought happens here thats worth telling someone abt over the phone..
Anyways.. there's always a way to circumvent these things.. so now I say 'aur batao' before the other person gets a chance [:D]..
Detour.. something else just came to mind..
Vacations see the worst forms of PMC thats possible. PMC = polite meaningless conversation.
Picture this... vacations coming up... you're returning from class walking down Scholars Avenue.. ( yeah I had to use that name.. :P)... and a guy from another hall (with whom I havent exchanged more than hi or hello since the beginning of mankind...) is walking in the opp. direction..
Other guy: " Hi.. ghar ja raha hai ??"
Me: "haan :) "
Other guy: " Ohh.. kab ??"
Me: " Tomorrow... most probably"
Other guy: " peace.. wapas kab aa raha hai"
Me: " *a date*"
OG: "hmm.. peace.. chal then cya"
Me: " cya"
Friggin hell as if it matters to anyone when someone else is going home and when he'll be back. Why dont ppl even ask what dress the other person will be wearing when he's going home.. or whether he'll pee before he leaves the hall..
blah..
I doubt if anyone even remembers what the other person said a minute after the talk.. Its fine in case of friends... of course you'd wanna know when they'll be back.. but its dumb when "kab ja raha hai" starts to seem like a substitute for "hi"!
Anyways.. enjoy life.. diwali coming up.. have fun.. and when you call up someone to wish him/her... puhleeez dont do the "aur batao" thing!!

Wouldnt say I didn't see that coming!
@ KK:
hmm.. in the same tune as the ym audible??!!
hmm...sunny somani hating meaningless conversation ..i would have never guessed [:D]
Something tells me that you've become very intolerant these days.. Or rather more since the "SunniSomani" I knew way back in JCB, or even until 3rd year.. Blame it on the Diro?
@ Sandy:
Hahahahaha...:))
Naah.. I dont hate meaningless conversation at all.. but there are some forms of it that seem way too difficult to compile..[:P]
hey dumbo...its just that somebody is trying very hard to be nice to u (poor soul!),despite the obvious constraints , hence the 'aur batao...' :D
Isnt that infinitely better than blatantly marooing a psi?
@ Dewdrop:
Yeah...[:(]
So true.. should have realised..
*sigh*
Obvious contraints.. of course..
*sigh*
I guess the 'dumbo' part of it explains everything..
[:(]
*sigh*
dude, i retracted my post. it was painful. sorry for creating any trouble for you guys.
hmmm good sunni somani, yes, this "aur batao" is very irritating and so is "ghar ja rahe ho??" ... but one can't get rid of all meaningless crap as there are very few words exchanged, which are necessary to be exchanged.
Saala-Sunny-somany (SSS) I totally agree wid u on dis....Ive got frust wid it umpteenth times...but not dat I dont do it myself :p
@ Modi:
Oh please... lets not get rid of all meaningless crap... coz one of the first things u'll have to get rid of, in that case, is life itself!
@ Shaggy:
Waah... badhiya hai... ek aur naya naam for me...
If I'm not mistaken... this is the 4th version of SSS that I've been labelled with till now!
@ Chintan:
Hmm... time for introspection...
Abt the diro... sure man... as you like it!
I am sure you weren't expecting a comment on a month old blog.
I am a huge hater of 'aur batao' conversations too.
Maybe we can start a club, where all you do is converse about anything, without saying 'aur batao'. Wonder what the world would be like without small talk....
What does aur batao mean in english? Please help translate.
@Arvind Iyer:
I'm sure you werent expecting a reply to a two-year-old comment!
And well, without small talk... I reckon the weather would start feeling oh-so-left-out of the whole arrangement [:P]
@ Anonymous:
Literally, it translates to 'Say more' or 'Tell me more'.
Its a way of carrying conversations forward just like "So what else is up?".
