Blog 1301: Auld lang syne

This post by bourgeois buffoon (!) got me thinking of all the things I'd dappled with as a kid and then given up coz i didnt feel like it.

Lets go chronologically, shall we?
Good.

Hmm... so lemme see... I guess it all began with a harmonium teacher that I had as a kid in class... umm... K.G. and 1.
He came.
He taught.
I mugged.
I played.

Simple [:D]

Learnt nothing.
Zilch.

Consequence, we left each other before either of us went mad.

Then... I joined a swimming pool.
O yes!

I began in right earnest.
Learnt all the techniques, the physics, the biology and the chemistry behind it.
I toiled hard.
Took all the safety measures I had to.

I dreamt I'd become the ultimate swimming champion.

But then I heard that the best time to quit is when you are on top.
So... [:D]

Its more like we shifted home after some time and I lost access to a swimming pool close to home.
But anyways... another episode, another ending.

Hmm... next...

Then I joined a dance class.
[:D]

The poor fellow there tried teaching me some classical dance forms.

But we soon realised I was better suited to this...

And hence, we promptly reached the end of this episode too. [:D]

Cool na?

With this we enter the phase where I shifted home to a new place...
Hence...
New classes.
New experiences.
Same crap.

Okk... next... hmmm...

Of course... which kid worth his name hasnt joined a drawing class?
Ergo... i joined one too.

But then... my teacher gave me drawings like this to replicate...

And so, I faithfully reproduced those drawings as this...

And so before either of us gouged his eyes out, we quickly parted ways.
Live and let live.
Thank God for that :-)

Phew... next...

Oh I joined another dance class.
And this one too realised I was better suited to such exquisite dance forms as this one... and realised he was way too underqualified for teaching me anything... and I think by now u know what happened next. [:P]

Now as a patriotic Indian kid, I decided to take up my national sport.
You might think its called politics.
But no... its actually cricket.

Who's that at the back grumbling about hockey?
You... yes you... whats the name of the coach of the Indian hockey team?
Hmm... Gill, u say...
Hmm...

Khair... so I joined a cricket club.
I went there the first day without a bat.
Or pads.
Or gloves.
Or anything whatsoever except the woefully out-of-shape bulk of protoplasm that my body was. (Is?)

I got a chance to bat alright.
I flicked the first ball for four.
*applause*
And I got out after scoring another run.

If its not too much of a coincidence, I hit a six in my first ball in inter-block cricket in RK too.
And then I got out after scoring another run.

If India ever needs a boundary of the last ball and Dhoni feels inadequate for the job, ring me up Mr. Chappell.[:D]

And finally... to round off all the classes I ever joined, there was a guitar class too.
Yes yes... you heard that absofuckinlutely right.
It didnt make sense leaving this one thing out in the entire spectrum u know...

So I went to a guitar class in class 7.
Again the guy taught me a few things.
I mugged.
I played.
I didnt learn anything.
And soon I decided I didnt have time for all this crap.

After all this I finally reached the time when I had a month's holiday at the end of the class 10 board exams.
A decade before this holiday, my parents had bought me a small Casio keyboard.
During these hols, I finally decided I'd simply have to do some justice to this 'investment' of my parents.
Hence, I took IT and started off delicately experimenting with the beast.
By some stroke of luck, I accidently played "Kaho na pyaar" of "kaho na pyaar hai".
Just the three words.
No more.
I stuck it out... and by trial and error, I was able to play the entire line.

That was it.
I'd figured out how the keyboard worked :-)
Over the next two years, I played out every song I'd ever heard... and created a couple of mine too!
But unfortunately, I never learned how to use the left hand to play the chords and thats where my piano career is currently struck.

Its one of my dreams to be able to play Candle in the Wind by Elton John...
Someday, somehow, I will learn that.
Hopefully anyways.

Sometime later, I tried my hand on the guitar by myself.
This time, I was able to pick up songs on the guitar :-)
I guess once u get a hang of one instrument, you can fiddle around with all the others too.

And finally... the latest fad for me... running the 2.2 [:D]
Lets see how long this survives.

What was that thing about 'Jack of all trades...' [;)]

LOTTTS of classes!! you should have stuck with one or two - the guitar and cricket class would have been fine.

and here's hoping your running career isn't as short-lived.

I have had my share of incomplete courses of vocational learning... from painting to casio, from swimming to guitar lessons.
Jill of all trades, anyone??? :)
