Blog 4301: Good boys

Me and Ashish were talking over mocha yesterday.
And he said, "In some companies, employees have this funda of stacks. They all try keeping themselves at the bottom of the stack. Whenever the manager has to fire someone, he just puts his hand in the stack and pops out the topmost fellow."
"Or more."

Well.
Nice funda.
Except that the first thing that came to my mind was - that operation, or moving within the stack, wouldnt be possible without some people getting out of the stack, rearranging, and then getting back in.
So technically, even if you wanted to get down the stack, you and some others would first have to get fired and then hired back.

Then I gave myself a mental gpl for having thought so wonderfully technically on what was a figurative point.
Report card: can do better.

That was yesterday.
Today, some people happened to converge at a door.
I, one of them.
Guy 1 turned the handle and tried pulling the door.
Guy 2 gave him a mental gpl and said, "It says push. P-U-S-H. Dhakka de."
Guy 1: "Ow right. Hey... shouldn't the other side then have P-O-P instead of P-U-L-L."
And they all laughed.

Tough luck Barack Obama.
I dont see those IT jobs not getting outsourced here.
:-P

tum bhi na.. isliye to i insisted on the people part. waise this could be done, i think. if you have no frequent need for sorting the stack (which is the case here), you could create it dynamically (linked list types) and just delete the last entry as and when required.

so, summing up from the above comments: what if someone in the middle of the stack had to pee???

Draw a mental picture now :P

@ Naween:

D'oh :-P

So now you suggest a manipulation within the structure to prove your point. So very managementy :-P

He'd do what the manager does. Put his hand in, take out the topmost thing... and fire. :-P
