Blog 402: Dene waala jab bhi deta...

Calvin: That's one of the remarkable things about life. It's never so bad that it can't get worse.

Me is very very disgusted at the way things are going in the sports arena nowadays...

First...the goddamned season that Schumi has been having just took a turn for the worse *boohoo*.
I confess i had never ever heard of this Balbir Singh before. In a way its nice to know that an Indian had played such a big role in the monumental successes schumi has had.

But u know what...consider this...Schumi is down in the dumps, Alonso has streaked ahead in the championship, schumi's tyres arent up to scratch and now he's lost his friend, philosopher and guide blah blah...if he can now turn the season around, THAT'LL BE IT FOR HISTORY. He'll decidedly go down as the greatest of the greatest. The stage is all set for him...if only he were to show that legendary schumi magic for just this one last time...!!!

Next locha...Federer lost.
To me, Federer is the next gen Sampras. He has that class, that poised demeanor and like Sampras, he goes about quietly bull dozing opponents...doesnt jump around like Hewitt. Plus, i have a weakness for people who win Wimbledon. Wimbledon has that aura which the other grand slams lack...its classy...its regal! And Sampras was king of Wimbledon. The way he could come up with aces just when he needed them, nay, the way he could come up with aces as and when he wanted, the way he served-and-volleyed the game from start to finish...it was awesome. If u saw that wimbledon final in 1998 between Sampras and Ivanisevic, you wont forget it for life! The last set...those aces after aces...and then that break of Goran's serve...Steven Spielberg and all his genius cant make a thriller of that kind!

Nadal isnt totally out of the blue though...John McEnroe used to write a column for The Telegraph and in that he had written a long time ago that Nadal and another fellow were the future of tennis. Couldnt find that article...but i guess McEnroe expressed thus much in this too.

U know what...some duck awareness organisation or some egg corporation should really sign up Saurav Ganguly for promotion. Poor old dada went to Glamorgan to rediscover batting again...but well...first stint with the bat resulted in only a third ball duck! . I feel sorry for him...really...i mean he was almost Tendulkaresque around 99-2000, he's infused attitude into this indian team and he actually acts like a captain and not just a duffer who goes out to toss a coin and shake hands with his counterpart. But truth be told, he is a liability as far as batting is concerned. Ask yourself, dont u just feel that he's about to get out every time he goes out to bat. It'd be terrific if dada could get back to being second-in-command to God on the off side...but until then...enjoy these!!

And lastly...Paes and Navratilova lost in the French Open Mixed Doubles final. Gotta salute Navratilova for what she is. 58 grand slam titles, 48 years of age and she still makes it to the finals of grand slams!!
Slight detour: even today i cant help but be sore at Paes and Bhupathi for breaking up. Both donkeys were doing so well playing together but then...well...c'est la vie.

ps: *hands clasped* please please may it rain today!!
